Can you snap some pictures of the defects? I just thumbed through my copy really quick and the text looked just fine. Maybe you got lucky, although I doubt pictures would show what I mean. I know clear printing in a book when I see it, and this is not the first time I've had an EP book where they used an out of copyright original text that was less than stellar.
Remember, EP is only selling facsimile copies of books that have been printed before by someone else other than a small number of original DLE titles. EP's niche in the market is putting leather covers on these titles.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy EP books have just underbut realize what you are getting when something doesn't look "up to par. Fortunately, this is not the vast majority of the books they offer, so I've been a pretty happy customer.
Even now I'm ok with the situation of the Ulysses text. Called EP today to return the book and they said they will send a return label. I also always order books from EP payment due. That way I am not out any money until I'm satisfied with the book.
That's their policy, so I use it, and it works for me.
Oct 9,2: I am missing several titles in this series. Called EP recently and was told the series is discontinued. Seems the only book-a-month series left where you get a list of books in advance is the Great Books series formerly Greatest Books. Kind of sad, I liked getting books in a series, but I wanted to know what I would get ahead of time before committing.
Oct 9,1: The glory days of great series from EP may be over now. I am glad I was there to participate when there were so many varied series being offered. I still pick and choose from the yearly Readers Choice offerings, and am satisified with these. This may just be the result of a decline in book readers over the past few decades.
Fewer people subscribing to books may have made the model financially unsustainable. Who know, but I lament the change. This has coincided with changes in my other beloved book publisher -- the Folio Society. Both publishers seem to have given up on subscribers -- readers and customers who commit to buying a certain number of books, or series of books in the future.
Now both just offer whatever they have and hope that there is enough appeal to entice folks to buy the books post publication. Subsequently, my generous purchases of new books from these two publishing houses has significantly declined.
Ah well, I wish them both luck. But even more so, I hope that the population of book buyers and readers levels off at some point. The Children's Crusade (WORLD HISTORY MOVIE) - An incredibly historically irrelevant movie (for the most part) produced by a group of high school sophomores for their final project in World History.
